As of today – our three older, semi-retired dogs are all 9 years old. Sammie is 9 1/2 and retired from all forms of agility. Denver turned 9 earlier this month and will most likely move to Preferred this year for a nice long career at 12″. And Gypsy turned 9 today! Other than Sammie’s lower back issues that have made agility an impossibility for her, all three are healthy and happy. And that’s what counts!

  1. wow! time is moving too fast for our kiddos and doggies. i can't believe they're 9 already!!

  2. I know how hard it can be. Shiner and Mardi are both 8 1/2. Shiner can keep doing agility as long as he wants to, but I will retire him whenever he stops having fun. That's happened several times during his agility career, and it always comes suddenly, but I'm at peace with it now. Mardi WANTS to do everything, but she's started to have some issues with her front end, so I'm having to be more careful with her as well. I hope she has a couple more years in her–I'd like for her to compete until I get Ticket going, but plans don't always work out, so we'll see. I can't wait to get going with Ticket! It's so much to start with a blank slate. :-)

  3. It's sometimes rough having more than one dog the same age. But I see that you all are doing it all over again with the new generation, too. Happy birthday, 9ers!

  4. Ugh, I know! Connor will be 10 in 5 weeks! Just in the last month he's having to really think about jumping up on the bed and he's slow to get up from a long nap. It makes me sad.
