I guess they can hardly be called puppies anymore! But until some new dogs come along - that's how they'll be known. Gitta is 11 months and Raph is 13 months. They've been best buddies since the day I brought Gitta home.

Stalking Susan Garrett
June is going to be a BIG month for Team Fernandezlopez. It started out with Esteban wanting to attend the Masters Handling seminar held by Susan Garrett, Greg Derrett, and Laura Derrett June 30th-July 2nd. While I'm a Greg Derrett handler (or try to be) - I wasn't initially excited because my focus is on my new pup Gitta - who hasn't even been introduced to obstacles yet. While I would love to do this seminar one day, I had been hoping to be able to do a Susan Garrett foundation seminar with Gitta as soon as one was announced. I had wanted to attend last winter/this spring, but by the time I got Gitta and checked out the site - most of the seminars were full. I didn't want to make the trip for a few days of seminars - I wanted to do a full set. Advances in Dog Training, Puppy Foundation, Contacts and Weaves, etc. So I couldn't really get excited about a Handling Seminar with my 9yr old dog with jumping issues!
Esteban convinced me that it would be best to iron out my handling issues with Denver so that I'd have it all down by the time Gitta got to that level. We committed to working through a GD exercises each day with our two dogs (I'd take Denver, he'd take Rook) so that we'd be prepared. I started to get excited and we signed up (this was just 2 days ago!)!
Then yesterday morning (could it really have been just yesterday???) I woke up to an email that knocked all the sleepiness right out of my head. Susan announced that she would be holding her seminars in Auburn, Washington in mid-June. She was keeping it private (announced in her newsletter but not on her site), to give her readers a chance to get registered before making it public. Being in a seminar frame of mind - I decided to not think about it - just do it; and Esteban agreed. I got to do what I had been dreaming about - the entire series of seminars from beginning to end with Gitta.
Those seminars will be on June 20th-June 24th (5 whole days!) and include: Advances in Dog Training; Body Awareness and 2x2 Lecture; Puppy Day; Foundation Handling; and Contact & Weaves. Even as I write this I see that Advances in Dog Training and Foundation Handling are now full! Guess I did good by signing up within 90 mins of reading the email!
I am so UNBELIEVABLY excited! I can't believe I'm really doing it! I'll be going to 5 days with Gitta in Auburn, WA; flying home, and then leaving 3 days later to do the 3 days Masters Handling with Denver (and Esteban with Rook). EIGHT days of Susan Garrett seminars in June - WOW!!!
And the timing is perfect. Gitta is old enough to start contact and weave work (or will be by then - she'll be just under a year); but hasn't actually started - so we're not retraining anything. I'm expecting an amazing experience that is going to launch her agility training!
